Data revealed that national transportation company Mwasalat transported a total of 4.5 million passengers over the course of last year. Compared to 2016 statistics this comprises a growth of 21 percent.
Of these passengers, 1,6 million were recorded on the Ruwi-Al Mabaila route, followed by over 700,000 passengers on the Ruwi-Wadi Al Kabir route. The Ruwi- Al Amirat route transported over 600,000 passengers, while the Al Khoudh- Sultan Qaboos University- Burj Al Sahwa route transported in excess of 400,000.
The total number of passengers on internal routes within the Muscat Governorate stood at 4.2 million passengers, while the for external routes both to other governorates within the Sultanate and to Dubai stood at 304,340.
Last October Mwasalat signed a new bus supply agreement for 98 buses, 33 of which will be used for external routes and 65 of which are to be used for internal routes.
