Oman Ports Conference Hopes to Promote Sultanate’s Logistics Sector

The Oman Ports Conference is set to take place tomorrow under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Shehab bin Tariq Al Said. The conference, for which an elite team of experts from across the world will be in attendance, is being organized by Al Roya in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport and Communications and Omani International Logistics Group Asyad.

The conference will discuss the importance of ports in the trade movement, with His Excellency Dr Ahmed Al Futtaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications, to deliver a speech about the logistics sector and its importance for economic diversification plans. A further speech with be presented by His Excellency Ihsan Iqbal, Minister of Planning and Development of Pakistan.

Hatim Hamad Al Taie, CEO of Al Roya and General Secretary of the Conference, was quoted as saying that the priority of the conference is to highlight Omani ports and take advantage of new technology for the development this promising sector.

He explained that in attendance at the conference would be a number of officials from the port sector, pointing out that Oman’s ports are the backbone of the logistics sector, which in turn is a very important focus of the economic diversification strategy. It is hoped that the Sultanate’s logistics sector can become one of the main centres in the Middle East for this field.

The conference will touch upon the themes of Maritime Trade around the World and Prospects for Growth, the efficiency of Omani ports, challenges and solutions and the role of logistics in port integration. The conference concludes with a panel discussion titled ‘Mechanisms to Enhance Oman’s Contribution to Global Maritime Trade.
