The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has revealed that the number of applications for national and international trademarks, patents, copyrights and industrial designs in the Sultanate over the past year amounted to 31,043.
Ahmed Mohammed Al Saidi, Director of the Intellectual Property Department at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, stated that the number applications for national and international trademarks in the field of registration, renewal, transfer, licensing, modification and advertising was was 30,410. This was in addition to 391 patent applications, 3,23 international trademark applications, 216 copyright applications and 26 industrial model applications.
The importance of intellectual property protection lies in allowing creators and patent, trademark or copyright owners to benefit from their work. It also aims to encourage and attract foreign investment, in addition to providing the necessary protection against theft and piracy.
