His Excellency Abdullah Nasser Al Bakri has issued Ministerial Decree (38/2018) temporarily suspending the authorisation to recruit non-Omani manpower in a number of professions.
The decree was based on the Labour Law as promulgated by Royal Decree No. (35/2003) and Royal Decree No. (76/2004).
Article (1) of the new decree stipulates the temporary suspension of work permits for non-Omanis in private sector establishments for the professions specified below, for a period of six months. Work permits issued before this date will remain valid until their date of validity.
Article (2) states that the decree shall not apply to establishments owned by full-time employers, those registered with the General Authority for the Development of Small and Medium Enterprises and those insured by the General Authority for Social Insurance.
