Ministry of Heritage and Culture highlights archeological findings along Omani coasts

A press conference was held at the Directorate General of Heritage and Culture in Dhofar today, to review the main findings of an archaeological survey that was carried out on the Sultanate’s coasts. The conference was organised by the Ministry of Heritage and Culture, in cooperation with the archaeological mission of the National Institute for Scientific Research in France.

Ahmed Salim Al Hajri, Director General of Heritage and Culture in Dhofar, said that the aim of the archaeological survey was to study prehistoric human settlement along the costs of Oman. This comes as part of the ministry’s keenness to spread awareness of the importance of physical and cultural heritage and how to preserve it.

The press conference reviewed the most important outcomes of the archaeological survey along the Dhofar coast, in addition to highlighting the role and the efforts of the Ministry in the field of preserving Omani cultural heritage.

Members of the French mission explained that they had found the first tomb in Dhofar that dates back to the Neolithic era.
