Verdict issued against manpower recruitment office for breach of Consumer Protection Law

Muscat – Atheer

The Preliminary Court in Sur has issued a verdict against a female manpower recruitment office, for a breach of the Consumer Protection Law, fining the office 1,300 Rials and issuing a prison sentence.

The Department of Consumer Protection received a complaint from a customer against a female manpower recruitment office, with the claim being that the office had failed to fulfill its obligations. The customer had signed a contract with the office pertaining to the hiring of a female domestic worker, for a total of 1,300 Omani Rials.

The customer claimed that within a week the domestic worker refused to work and when he attempted to contact the office from which he hired her, the office failed to return the amount that the customer had paid. This led the customer to submitting a complaint with the Department of Consumer Protection, which subsequently took the necessary action by transferring the case to the Public Prosecution.
