The Ministry of Manpower has suspended a total of 199 establishments in the private sector, as a result of their non-compliance to Omanisation laws.
The ministry said in a statement that the establishments that it has stopped dealing with have an expatriate labour force of more than fifty working in high positions and don’t employ any Omani citizens.
These establishments have a combined total of 16,444 expatriate employees. Of the total number of establishments, 21 are in Muscat, 78 in Dhofar, 18 in North Al Batinah, 12 in South Al Batinah, 27 in North Al Sharqiyah, 25 in South Al Sharqiyah, nine in Al Buraimi, four in Al Dakhiliyah, four in Al Wusta and one in Al Dhahirah.
The suspension means that the ministry will not provide the establishments witth any service, including issuing new work permits and renewing labour cards. In the case that the establishments fail to comply with the required Omanisation rate, which is a minimum of ten percent, the ministry will take the necessary legal action.
