Muscat – Atheer
Today saw the conclusion of the NBO Oman Open 2018, which kicked of on Thursday, with Joost Luiten from the Netherlands winning first place ahead of Chris Wood.
The inaugural NBO Oman Open was hosted at Al Mouj Golf, which didn’t disappoint on its European Tour debut.
This was of course the first time that the Sultanate was hosting a European Tour event, following five years of hosting European Challenge Tour tournaments, considered to be the second tier.
“Im very happy that I won this week. It’s been a great week and a great tournament. I love Oman, I love the golf course and I love the people. Its just been a great week,” said Luiten.
“I’m thrilled to be standing here with the trophy amd I look forward to being back here again very soon.”
Luiten rounded off by saying “the country is beautiful, the city is nice, the hotel we stayed in is beautuful, the people are nice and the golf course is fantastic, so what more can you want?”
The award ceremony was held under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Shihab, who started by saying “of course its a great honour for me to preside over the award ceremony this afternoon. This is a very special event for the Sultanate of Oman and holding this tournament has put Oman on the world map for golf.”
Sayyid Shihab went on to speak about the fact that the Al Mouj golf, which he referred to as a wonderful course caringly looked after, as having become an international golf course.
“I hope that there will be further events to come in the future and my ambition is to see an Omani player competing alongside the top ranked players. Hopefully this will help the game of golf grow in the Sultanate.
