Salalah Port handled 1.55 million metric tonnes of general cargo in January, surpassing the previous figure for monthly volumes recorded six months ago.
The port reached record levels in the handling of general cargo last year, with the figure amounting to 13.58 million metric tonnes.
Andrew Dawes, Salalah Port CEO said that the general cargo services at the port had grown strongly in January this year, as a result of plans to help customers improve supply chain efficiency.
He added that increasing the rate of growth in the general cargo handling of the port played a key role in expanding and diversifying the national economy and creating new job opportunities for Omani nationals.
Salalah Port seeks to create a number of new business opportunities that will contribute to the growth of the shipping and logistics sector, which is one of the pillars of growth and economic diversification in the Sultanate.
