The 23rd edition of the Muscat International Book Fair began yesterday evening at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, under the patronage of Sayyid Mohammed bin Sultan Al Busaidi, Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar.
Dr. Abdul Munim Mansour Al Hasani, Minister of Information and Chairman of the Muscat International Book Fair Committee, revealed in his speech that the book fair would witness the launch of the first publication of the Encyclopedia of Oman in Arab heritage by Dr. Hilal Al Hajri.
The minister added that the city of Salalah, which is the guest of honour, will promote its local heritage over the course of the book fair. The fair will feature a cultural events as well as cultural programs specifically for children.
The fair which runs until the 3rd of March, will feature 783 publishers, including 603 publishing houses directly participating and 180 participating indirectly as agencies, from a total of 28 different countries.
Of the 28 countries participating, seventeen are Arab countries, in addition to eleven others, namely the United Kingdom, Iran, Turkey, Canada, Japan, Sweden, Brunei, Italy, the United States, Germany and Pakistan.
