Budget airline Salam Air has set a long-term strategy to attract more Omanis to the aviation industry, as well as to build an Omani leadership team so to develop its operations and business growth, in addition to the customer experience.
This plan kicked off with Salam Air welcoming Captain Salim Al Khatri, an aviation veteran who will lead crew training. Tasked with establishing an in house training programme while also increasing efficiency, Al Khatri will play an important role in recruiting and retaining Omani pilots.
“Oman’s aviation industry has undergone great development thanks to the large number of government-led projects and investments. That coupled with the country’s strategic geographical location at the crossroad of east and west, has set the Sultanate on a growth trajectory,” said Captain Mohamed Ahmed, Salam Air CEO.
He went on to add that with the new Muscat International Airport about to commence operations, it would serve as a modern portal connecting Oman with the rest of the world. “We have a responsibility as the country’s budget airline to help achieve the new aviation strategy targets hand-in-hand with developing our local talent to lead the airline as we grow.”
Since starting operations in January of last year, the airline has achieved rates of Omanisation in excess of sixty percent, operating a contact center that comprises of purely of Omani nationals. This comes in addition to the company’s leadership team, which is fifty percent Omani. The airline aims to increase the number of nationals working within its various departments and its management, so to serve its growing network of destinations.
Focused on increasing connectivity across the region on under-served and popular short to medium-haul routes, Salam Air flies to Muscat, Salalah, Sohar, Dubai, Doha, Jeddah, Karachi, Multan, Sialkot and Shiraz.
