United dumped out of Champions League by Sevilla

Manchester United suffered a shock exit in the Champions League last 16 with a 2-1 loss to Sevilla after substitute Wissam Ben Yedder struck twice at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

The Spanish side, who had previously never won a Champions League match in England, advanced to the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite club competition for the first time since 1958, having played out a goalless draw in the first leg.

Reuters reported that Ben Yedder put Sevilla in front with a low finish just 87 seconds after coming off the bench in the 72nd minute, scoring again with a header four minutes later.

Mourinho said “I don’t think the performance was bad. I did my best, the players did their best. We tried, we lost and that’s football.”

“We had chances to score and again in the second half we had chances but the first goal would always change the direction of the game.”
