Three users of the Facebook Messenger application have sued Facebook on the grounds that it violated their privac. The users claimed that Favebook had collected logs of their phone calls and text messages, in what is the latest legal challenge facing the company.
Reuters reported that the US lawsuit was filed on Tuesday, seeking status as a class action on behalf of all affected users and asking for unspecified damages.
Facebook, which is reeling from a scandal over its handling of personal data, admitted that it had been logging call and text history of some users, but said that it had done so only when users of the Android operating system had opted in. The social networking site said that it does not collect the content of calls or text messages, adding that information is securely stored, with data not sold on to third parties.
